Pallmer Polar Dip Tour Highlights - Eastern Canadian Shows to promote New Album “Swimming”

We honestly had the best time filled with happy surprises and new friendships on this most recent Pallmer tour to celebrate the release of Swimming, which came into the world on Jan. 12, 2024. It’s always risky to do a midwinter tour, dodging snow storms, convincing folks to trudge through -25 weather and ice, to be warmed by the gentle tones of community and sound, while simultaneously keeping our instruments from turning into icicles. This time around luck was definitely on our side! Not one snow storm slowed our roll, so many people came out to the performances, leading to new friendship and potential collaborations for the future. We got to stay in some hotels with hot tubs, a much needed de-stressor for life on the road. There were laughs, snacks, sounds, drinks, and televised curling that concluded in a big with for the New Brunswick team. People who came to the shows were really engaged with the events and shared many kind words. Some people came to more than one show!! It was a very encouraging experience and was one of those rare moments for me where I felt hope for sustainability in this extremely challenging career path. I’m lucky to be able to collaborate with such solid folks, who’s commitments to this world and communities of sound continue to strengthen despite the many challenges. As it was with the national Pallmer tour last summer, this tour was wonderfully splendid, and my friends Emily and Mark, time and time again prove to be the loveliest of folks.

Pallmer is a chamber-pop duo born from late-night improv sessions during a particularly snowy winter in Fredericton, New Brunswick.  Using a cello and viola, the duo’s music melds their love of songwriting with their classical training, using loopers and guitar pedals to expand the possibilities of their wooden instruments.

The band has taken a slow but steady approach to releasing music, and after two EPs and two years of writing, Pallmer returned to the studio to record their first LP “Swimming.” The duo worked with JUNO award-winning producer Joshua van Tassel; their collaboration produced a tender collection of 9 songs that interweaves layers of strings, bass, ondéa, synthesizers, and marimba-like percussion.  “Swimming” is slated to be released in November 2023.
